What is a Yankee and what are the different types of Yankees?
What is a Yankee?
Instead of taking one bet as a multiple for example with just 4 teams (or 4 different numbers for Lucky Numbers), you can take all the combinations of those teams in combination bets.
A yankee bet will give you all the combination bets for those 4 teams, and it works out to 11 bets.
So for example if you had the following 4 teams:
Chelsea
Arsenal
Stoke
Everton
A normal multiple bet will just give you those 4 teams as one bet.
With a yankee bet, you get all the combinations with those 4 teams.
The combinations are:
1 quad, 4 trebles, 6 doubles
1. Chelsea-Arsenal
2. Chelsea-Stoke
3. Chelsea-Everton
4. Arsenal-Stoke
5. Arsenal-Everton
6. Stoke-Everton
7. Chelsea-Arsenal-Stoke
8. Chelsea-Arsenal-Everton
9. Chelsea-Stoke-Everton
10. Arsenal-Stoke-Everton
11. Chelsea-Arsenal-Stoke-Everton
Now it will cost you to bet for all 11 bets. So if you bet R1 per bet, it will cost you R11. If you put R10 per bet, it will cost you R110.
Now as the chart explains below, if one team loses, then a number of your bets in your yankee will be losing.
So if Chelsea loses, then your 11 bets goes down to 4 bets that still have a chance of winning:
4. Arsenal-Stoke
5. Arsenal-Everton
6. Stoke-Everton
10. Arsenal-Stoke-Everton
If two teams lose, say Chelsea and Arsenal, you are only left with one bet that can be winning:
6. Stoke-Everton
Then if three teams lose, then all your bets are losing. There are no single bets included in the yankee.
Yankees are nice bets to take if you are confident with 4 selections because it saves you taking all the combination bets individually. How ever you have to pay for each of the bets, and if one team loses, then quite a few of your combinations get knocked out.
Below is an explanation of the 3 leg, 4 leg, and 5 leg yankees:
Different Yankee Types:
PATENT (aka Trixie) - 3 LEGS
A wager on three selections and consisting of four separate bets: 3 doubles and a treble. A minimum two selections must win to gain a return.
Minimum cost = R4 (R1 per bet)
YANKEE - 4 LEGS
A wager on four selections and consisting of 11 separate bets: 6 doubles, 4 trebles and a fourfold accumulator. A minimum two selections must win to gain a return.
Minimum cost = R11 (R1 per bet)
CANADIAN (aka Super Yankee) - 5 LEGS
A wager on five selections and consisting of 26 separate bets: 10 doubles, 10 trebles, 5 fourfolds and a fivefold accumulator. A minimum two selections must win to gain a return.
Minimum cost = R26 (R1 per bet)
